Snap the Ball, and Your Rival’s Bones, in PS3 Madden 10

The soundtrack on PS3 Madden 10 is another facet that will get hardcore gamers going. Soundtracks have become synonymous with the games themselves, especially the Madden series. PS3 Madden 10's soundtrack brings the right level of intensity, as well as a great mix of newer and older songs ("older" being a relative term here, of course). One gander at the song lineup should induce and impress: "Can't C Me" by 2Pac, "Heads are Gonna Roll" by Airbourne, "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains, "Created a Monster" by B.o.B, "Revolution" by Bang Camaro, "Sabotage" by Beastie Boys, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, "Get 'Em Up" by Cypress Hill, "Unsung" by Helmet, "Aces High" by Iron Maiden, "Painkiller" by Judas Priest, "I Am the Bullgod" by Kid Rock, "Reckoning" by Killswitch Engage, "Blind" by Korn, "Divinations" by Mastodon, "Hate Me Now" by Nas featuring Puff Daddy, "Breed" by Nirvana, "Walk" by Pantera, "Shut 'Em Down" by Public Enemy, "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine, "Gaia Bleeds (Make Way for Man)" by Set Your Goals, "Duality" by Slipknot, "Sugar" by System of a Down, "Before I Die" by The Vanity Plan," and "Cheah Beah" by Young Dre The Truth. If that ain't enough to sell you on PS3 Madden 10, maybe a history lesson will help. Sure, it's questionable to praise today's games simply by damning yesterday's. After viewing the earliest football video games, however, you'll understand why PS3 Madden 10 is such an achievement. At the dawn of video game consoles, one of the top requests from every hardcore gamer was a football video game for their system, naturally. Only thing was, video game consoles and cartridges didn't have the capabilities to match the needs of the typical hardcore gamer, so everyone had to take what they could get. In any ads or promos, the manufacturers of this one insisted "all the excitement" of the genuine article. Competition was nonexistent, so this one was a huge hit for the biggest video game console in the day.

The football players look like blocky little robots. That's just a harsh fact. As crude-looking as that picture is, it's even worse when you see the game in action. Put too many characters on screen at once with these older games, and every character started flashing and flickering. The "crowd" cheering sounded closer to a car running over gravel. Things were so limited that a scrolling screen was out of the question. Within a couple years, things would pick up slightly, with a competing console developing a football video game. It was yards better than that first one - people looked a bit more like people, the players no longer flickered, and gamers got their scrolling screen. But it was still nothing too impressive.

That one caused a huge sensation upon its arrival to the video game world, and while it set a (slightly) higher standard, this wasn't the foundation for football video games to be built on. More time would pass in order for that to transpire. This next one, coming out for the next generation of game consoles at the end of the 80s, was a sensation, and still beloved today. This one held the top spot for football video game fans forever. Makes sense that it was so revered by the hardcore gamer - it really was the first true attempt to recreate the NFL. Everything - sound, visuals - got such a major upgrade that this was the final word in sports video games. Judging by its online revival, people still enjoy it today in small doses. That being said, PS3 Madden 10 still blows it away. When you've seen all the rest, now take a look at the best. Yes, technology has been good to the video game world in general, and the football video game has benefitted from it all. No need to keep bagging on the old stuff. No need to beat a dead horse. Those games, while archaic, got us to where we are today, and for that, they deserve their place in the video game hall of fame (though that first one may be better off in "video game hall of shame.") Gamers are happy, and with good cause - PS3 Madden 10 really kicked this one through the goal posts. And of course, the critics are equally enthusiastic about PS3 Madden 10, which is even more good news for fans of the franchise. Anytime you read a PS3 Madden 10 review, you'll see things like "realistic and enjoyable." EA Sports has sacked all the competition with PS3 Madden 10, to nobody's surprise. No doubt, PS3 Madden 10 is the real sport of champions, and don't let some douchebag tell you otherwise. Not to disparage the other PlayStation sports video games - they're all pretty excellent in their own right, but PS3 Madden rules the playing field. In the video game world, PS3 football games begin and end with Madden. Along with its major popularity, this is also where you get to battle for bucks.

PlayStation Madden 10 aficionados now get to face off for big bucks. You'll be making touchdowns, and nabbing your foe's money, after you've educated yourself in all things Madden 10.
